Reasons to postpone JEE and NEET Exams immediately
We're going to talk on the matter of the students and the examinations that they have to appear for, today
The patience of the students is already wearing thin
So, let me explain to you the entire issue in a jiffy
JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) and NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test)
fulfills the aspirations of parents every year
That is, it churns out doctors and engineers
This year, there are around 16 lakh candidates appearing for NEET and around 9 lakh appearing
for JEE
These exams were scheduled to be held in April-May but then COVID broke out
and the exams began to get postponed- just like "Vikas" (progress)
And now, when the number of corona patients has surpassed the number of exam aspirants
the government suddenly thought of conducting a boxing match (that is, conducting the exams )
and fixed the dates (for JEE and NEET exams) in September
The harried students approached the Supreme Court to get their exams postponed
but even the court dismissed their plea on 17th August at the speed it takes to prepare Maggi
noodles
all this- whilst sitting in a virtual conference themselves!
They seem hell-bent on extracting an apology from Prashant Bhushan and conducting the exams
The Parliament is lying vacant
The railways are not in operation
Why is the government after the lives of the students then?
The students are trending hashtags on Twitter in fear of infections
and pleading the government to at least postpone the exams
It seems as if JEE and NEET aspirants have been provided an exchange offer by the government
Give exams and get COVID in return!
The students have come down to hunger strikes
They're banging plates, lighting diyas and holding Janta curfews
no one came to hear them out
Neither did anyone speak up for them
Not even students!
So, this time, we realized that the students will have to raise a voice on their own
via video messages
Main points
on why the exams should be postponed immediatelyTransportation woes
There's flooding in a lot of places. The roadways in front of people's houses have now turned
into waterways
Neither buses are plying, nor are the trains
There exists a grim problem of traveling and lodging
The exam center assigned is 500 kilometer’s away from their homes
The migrants have already walked such long distances on foot- are the students expected to do
the same?
Few Students voices over through videos
"Hi, I'm from Manipur. I have no private vehicle to go to Imphal and write my exams
Many students are like me"
"My center is 500 kilometers away from my house
and the state of transportation has become extremely deplorable"
"No jet or Rafale would be assigned to drop the students to their centers"
"The whole of Bihar is reeling under floods, there are no facilities for transportation
The (corona) cases are rising exponentially every day and we are living in a severe zone
How do we go, sir?"
You would issue admit cards and assign centers to us
In the end, it is us who has to manage
We are the ones at risk for we are the ones who have to appear for these exams- not you"
The risk of infection
The main concern is what if the family members get infected by corona (if students become
carriers)?
Not everyone has access to Nanavati and Vedanta hospitals
Treatment in private hospitals costs 30 lakh rupees!
and we were not even provided with the promised 15 lakhs!
Where is this sum going to be procured from, then?
There are more than 25 lakh students who would be appearing for these exams
A lot of them must be living in joint families as well
More lives would be destroyed than careers at this rate
"If I test positive after my examination, I will be exposing my family members and everyone in my
society"
"I live in a joint family and have grandparents and a newborn baby living at home"
"Not all our family members are so immunized that they can easily cope up with the virus"
"...by the time the students find out, they would have already infected their entire house, which is
not normal"
"If even one student contracts corona after appearing for the exam,
then the government should take responsibility and get the infected person treated in AIIMS
and that it would give compensation because after all, we are going to be martyred for
government exams
When I come back home... what would happen to my younger siblings and my grandmother?"
What about asymptomatic patients?
Thermal scanners do not detect COVID
One should have a positive mindset before exams. not a positive COVID report!
All of us know that the exam hall is somewhat like a chess game
. Let us now move to the problem of wearing masks
Masks can sure save us from corona but wearing masks along with spectacles
is somewhat like the combination of accelerator and break- if you use one, the other won't
function
And if there is a Shimla like fog every 5 minutes in front of your eyes
it would be hard to distinguish which one is the answer sheet
The children would fail anyway!
"It is extremely difficult for the students with spectacles to wear those masks and solve the
paper"
"If I am talking or even breathing, then it becomes completely fogged
Do you expect us to keep cleaning the fogged spectacles repeatedly
and not focus on the exam?
Keep aside masks, some students are also suffering from respiratory diseases
The doctors themselves do not advise such students to wear masks
Now, at that point, what do you expect me to do?"
Finally, let us move to SOPs
The government has aggrandized the SOP phrase so much that corona will run away upon hearing it!
But the beans about the SOPs in real life have already been spilled in the KCET and COMEDK
exams
Tackling COVID with SOPs would be the same as carrying milk in a cloth bag
Why are the reassurances of SOP being provided?
Why not give the Bhabhiji poppadoms to the students as refreshment instead?
It would be better
The students are requesting only the postponement of exams- not their cancellation
and are also asking for an increase in the number of centers
It is difficult to believe but there are only two centers in Bihar- for around 50,000 aspirants
Each center would have around 25,000 students!
That is enough to fill up a stadium. It is almost as if an Indian COVID league would be in progress
there
"There are 6 centers of NEET in Rajasthan and only two in Bihar
What about them?"
"Have you ever been to a NEET center?
Even the smallest center has a crowd outside that is extremely difficult to manage"
"Not only the students but even their parents would turn up for the exams"
"India does not have requisite preparation, or the requisite staff or the capacity to handle such
level of emergency
How can we trust that NEET and JEE main examinations and other entrance examinations as
well as mainstream examinations
can be conducted following the proper standard operating procedures?
Giving solutions is the job of politicians- not ours
but solutions are being provided by the children themselves
The curriculum can be managed- it need not span the entire year
The court argues that the future of the children cannot be put in jeopardy
The future would only be put in jeopardy if there is one!
The government comes up with one masterstroke after the other
They can make governments (in the states) fall and can come up with so many masterstrokes
Can they not change the timing of the curriculum?
"The government is saying that the career of the students would be jeopardized
or one year would get wasted. Nothing of that sort would happen if
they wanted, they could avoid summer holidays and the fests
then the session can easily be completed on time"
The issue started with NEET and JEE but more exams like the NDA are coming up
These students have begun raising their voices as well
What's ironical is that the court that decided to put the students in such danger by sending them
to exam centers
is operating virtually itself
The politicians that are getting these exams conducted by insisting that all is well
have kept the Parliament shut themselves
Do only Boomers hold the value of life?
You know better- whether these students who are raising questions are anti-national
"Friends, they (the government) are not listening to us. Now, we will listen to all the others (that
have been criticizing the government)
Now, we will hit where it hurts them the most
Now, we will question them (on all matters)
Be it the issue of migrant labors or the issue of unemployment
or the issue of faulty drainage when it rains
or any other regional topic
The patience of the students is already wearing thin
So, let me explain to you the entire issue in a jiffy
